Why Do Unbalanced Servo Motors Fail Prematurely?

Why Do Unbalanced Servo Motors Fail Prematurely?

The Invisible Danger: Rotor Unbalance

If your car's wheels are unbalanced, the steering wheel shakes. The same rule applies to servo motors. If the weight distribution on the rotor is not perfectly equal, centrifugal force creates severe vibration at high speeds.

What Does Unbalance Do to the Motor?

  • Destroys Bearings: The vibration hits the bearing housings like a hammer. Even new bearings will shatter within months.
  • Ruins the Encoder: Vibration can crack the encoder's optical glass disk or break delicate solders, causing position loss.
  • Magnet Breakage: Constant shaking causes neodymium magnets to detach and shred the stator windings.

Computerized Balancing is Mandatory

Motors that are just rewound or have bearings replaced without balancing are ticking time bombs. In the Code Elektronik Mechanical Workshop, every processed rotor is dynamically balanced on computerized machines according to ISO 1940 standards.
