The Importance of Encoders in Servo Motors
Encoders behind servo motors are high-precision electronic eyes that transmit position and speed to the drive. If you see warnings like "Encoder Error" or "Feedback Fault", your system is blind.
Why Do Encoders Fail?
- Optical Disk Contamination: Coolant vapor, dust, or bearing grease seeping into the motor coats the transparent optical glass disk. The LED cannot read it, causing a position error.
- Vibration: Excessive mechanical vibration cracks delicate solders or misaligns the optical sensor.
- Cable Breaks: Constant bending on moving axes breaks signal cables internally.
Our Encoder Laboratory
Cleaning an encoder with ordinary spray can destroy it. In our lab, faulty encoders are cleaned under microscopes with special solutions, and signals are calibrated using an oscilloscope before reassembly.
